The terminal
Applications on the Raspberry Pi may provide a graphical interface or a command line interface. More often, it is the administrative tasks such as installing applications that will use a command line interface. The application that provides the command line interface is usually called the "terminal". In Raspbian this is LXTerminal, and can be started from a shortcut on the task bar or from the "Accessories" group on the "Start" menu.
