BIOS passwords
When a PC is turned on, the first program to run is the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). This identifies some of the key components in the PC and checks they are working before it tries to load the operating system. The BIOS can have two passwords set in it.
- admin password
- user password
Admin password
If the admin password is set, this will be need to be entered to make any changes in the BIOS. This includes enabling or changing the BIOS passwords
User password
If the user password is set, this will need to be entered when the PC is turned on or the opearating system will not be loaded.
Both passwords can be removed by removing a jumper on the motherboard of the PC.
